The Role

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with experience or strong interest in Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support the design, delivery, and scaling of smart energy projects.

This role bridges engineering design, site realities, and delivery teams, working closely with electricians, installers, and software engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Solar & BESS Engineering Support

  • Support the design and review of:
    • solar PV systems
    • battery energy storage systems (BESS)
    • grid and site electrical interfaces
  • Review and contribute to:
    • single-line diagrams
    • protection and metering layouts
    • inverter and battery configurations

Site Assessment & Project Support

  • Assist with:
    • site electrical assessments
    • load analysis and capacity constraints
    • integration with existing infrastructure
  • Provide technical input during:
    • project planning
    • installation
    • commissioning and handover

Grid, Metering & Compliance

  • Support grid and network-facing requirements, including:
    • export/import constraints
    • protection and metering considerations
    • alignment with site operating limits
  • Coordinate with installers and engineers to ensure designs are:
    • safe
    • compliant
    • practical to install

Integration with Smart Energy Systems

  • Work alongside Ecologic’s EMS team to:
    • integrate solar and battery systems into monitoring and control platforms
    • ensure systems support demand management and peak shaving strategies
  • Translate engineering intent into deployable configurations.

Standardisation & Scale

  • Help develop:
    • repeatable design templates
    • standard approaches for common site types
    • technical documentation and guidance
  • Support scaling projects from individual sites to portfolios.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience or strong exposure to:
    • solar PV systems
    • battery energy storage systems
    • LV electrical infrastructure
  • Ability to work across:
    • design
    • site conditions
    • delivery teams
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

Highly Valued (but not essential)

  • Experience with:
    • grid-connected generation
    • protection and metering design
    • EV charging infrastructure an advantage
  • Familiarity with:
    • demand management concepts
    • peak load constraints
    • smart energy or building systems
  • Experience working alongside electricians and installers

We’re now looking for an electrician who wants to be part of the next generation of energy systems, not just traditional installs.

The Role

This role supports both Ecologic and Local Energy projects, covering:

1. EMS Installations (Schools, Commercial & Residential)

  • Install and commission:
    • smart energy meters (e.g. main incomers, sub-DBs and sub-circuits)
    • CTs, relays, control hardware
    • basic load control (hot water, EV chargers, pool equipment, HVAC interfaces)
  • Work alongside:
    • school electricians
    • commercial electricians 
  • Help standardise installation approaches across sites

2. Solar & Battery Project Support (Local Energy)

  • Assist with:
    • site walk-throughs and electrical assessments
    • coordination with solar/battery installers
    • review of single-line diagrams and metering layouts
    • commissioning and handover support
  • Act as a technical bridge between installers, engineers, and the software team

3. Electrician Enablement & Training

  • Help onboard and train:
    • partner electricians
    • school-nominated electricians
  • Learn and then teach:
    • smart metering concepts
    • demand management and peak shaving
    • EMS control philosophy

4. Light Project Management & Documentation

  • Capture site photos, as-builts, and notes
  • Feed install data back into Odoo (jobs, sites, assets)
  • Support repeatable roll-outs across many sites

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • NZ Registered Electrician 
  • Comfortable working on live commercial and school sites
  • Good communication with clients and other contractors
  • Willingness to learn new technologies

  • Experience with:

  • Interest in:
    • energy efficiency

As our deployment footprint grows, we’re looking for someone to own the operational and product delivery layer of our IoT platform — from device provisioning through to customer dashboards and ongoing performance.

The Role

We are seeking an IoT Operations & Product Delivery Manager to manage Ecologic’s growing portfolio of IoT-connected energy systems.

This role is the day-to-day owner of our IoT customers, ensuring that:

  • devices are deployed correctly,
  • data is reliable,
  • dashboards make sense to users,
  • and systems scale cleanly as we add more sites.

You will sit at the intersection of:

  • customers and delivery teams,
  • IoT devices and cloud platforms,
  • product roadmap and real-world usage.

Key Responsibilities

IoT Platform Operations

  • Own the operational performance of Ecologic’s IoT platform, including:
    • device and gateway provisioning
    • connectivity and uptime
    • data flow from site to cloud
  • Monitor system health across:
    • devices
    • networks
    • gateways
    • cloud services
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting data quality, reliability, or performance.

Customer Deployment & Onboarding

  • Manage IoT deployments across:
    • schools
    • commercial buildings
    • selected residential energy users
  • Coordinate with:
    • electricians
    • installers
    • internal technical teams
  • Ensure new sites are:
    • correctly configured
    • validated
    • handed over with clear dashboards and documentation

Dashboards, Data & User Experience

  • Own customer-facing dashboards and reporting, including:
    • energy monitoring views
    • operational status
    • alerts and insights
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure dashboards:
    • are accurate
    • are understandable to non-technical users
    • reflect how sites actually operate
  • Use data to:
    • identify issues
    • surface optimisation opportunities
    • support customer conversations

Product & Process Ownership

  • Maintain and evolve parts of the product roadmap related to:
    • IoT operations
    • deployments
    • dashboards
    • internal tools
  • Translate operational learnings into:
    • improved processes
    • clearer documentation
    • more repeatable deployments
  • Support testing, validation, and release readiness for new features.

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Act as a bridge between:
    • electricians and installers
    • software and platform teams
    • customers and stakeholders
  • Provide clear operational reporting and insights to management.
